Build 69. Fuel Filler Cover

This step finishes off the boot space nicely. My cover was slightly to long in size, mainly because the floor in my boot seems to tilt up slightly towards the back. So the first step was to mark it and cut it down in size using the Dremel. Once this was done I gave it a quick test fit (be careful as the aluminium is sharp now and it will scratch anything it touches), and then applied the IVA trim around all the edges that needed it. This was then super glued in place in a few places to finish the job.

The next job was to make holes for the washer bottle connection, I used two 13mm (8mm inner diameter) grommets which needed a 10mm hole drilling for them to fit nicely. The manual shows the holes at the front, but I had plenty of washer hose in the boot, and the electric cables were also plentiful, so I decided to let mine exit the side where it will be less in the way in the boot.

Now all that was remaining was to remove the plastic connector from the electric cable spades, which involves sticking a long thing object inside to free the tab which locks it in place (I actually have an electrical connection tool for this which worked OK). I then decided to add some more heat shrink cable around this to be sure.

All that remained now was to feed both cables through the holes, screw the filler cover to the boot floor, and then connect up the washer hose. I decided I would screw this on top of the carpet as it looks neat, the fixings are all black, and it will hold the carpet in place. Should I need to remove the carpet and floor in the future, it is only an extra few screws and connections to remove.
